ABOUT

Adri:

We were at Civil Life brewery. This was September 1st 2019. I went to celebrate my friend's Jaime birthday. Several Costa Rican's that live in Saint Louis were there. When I arrived, the table was basically full. I sat next to our friend Ana Irene and she kept telling me to look at this gringuito and his camanances. I thought he was Jaime's coworker...later I learned he was a random dude that was drinking a beer and was invited to sit with us...we talked a bit but we weren't sitting next or in front of each other, only close. Well at some point some of my friends wanted to try the electric skateboard he had, and they went outside to do it. My friend kept being very insistent on how cute the gringuito was, so after a couple of beers I was like ok ok, let me do this. I went to ask him to use the skateboard, and he agreed. Bear in mind I was wearing a dress and shoes with a wedge. So he was scared of me falling so he gave me his arm to hold while I was riding the skateboard. It was a quick ride, when I was done he asked me if I was interested in learning and he could teach me and I said yes! I gave him my phone number...and he texted me right away for me to save the phone number. However, I realized I gave him the wrong number, and went back to the bar and of course in a very awkward situation, I told him that I gave him the wrong number (which was a mistake! not my intention). He corrected it, and then texted me for a date a couple of days later! Needless to say Ana Irene was very proud of me.

PS: I am still waiting to be taught how to skateboard.

How We Met

Proposal

Eric:

After months of reviewing rings and second-guessing my decision and consulting her friend Valentina, I finally pulled the trigger and bought a ring. Then I spent months trying to figure out how to propose. COVID really made trips or outings trickier than they had to be, luckily Adri was getting stir crazy and wanted to go to Colorado to get away for an extended weekend. I was like, great, I have to pull the trigger on this trip. I bought one of those ring carrying cases so that I could keep the ring in my pocket and propose on the fly whenever it seemed right. We flew into Denver and spent the evening walking along on Mall Street and exploring local breweries. The next day we drove west through Winter Park to our AirBnB we spent the night there and made plans to go hiking around Monarch Lake the next morning. We start our hike and I knew I had to propose there - the weather was perfect, the lake was beautiful, it just felt right. So while we took a break about halfway through the hike, we shared the drinks we brought with us and as she turned to go back to the trail to continue the hike I snuck into my pocket and retrieved the ring and cheesily was like, "hey before you go... will you spend forever with me?". She welled up with tears so I knew I got her surprised. Success! I joked that I just needed to get her to an elevation of 11,000 feet in order to convince her to say yes.

First date

Eric:

Adri explained how we met... lol our first date was at Rockwell Brewery on a Tuesday evening. I was nervous because I had never gone on a date with a non-citizen so I was afraid we wouldn't have enough in common to talk about. I was immediately relieved once we got our drinks and started talking. We immediately connected on our careers and the conversation was effortless from there. We had a few drinks and decided to go walking up and down the Grove to continue our date. I somehow convinced her to kiss outside the Chroma building (I know I'm super romantic). I drove her back to to her place since she didn't have a car at the time. Best first date ever, I immediately knew I wanted to get to know her better.
